Refashions #5: Chic Ladies’ Purse from a Ladies’ Skirt

My mom came up for our first Open House. It was the first time in a while that we were able to collaborate on a project. It was so much fun!

My mom brought me a lot of great stuff. The piece that caught my eye first was this lovely black and silver shimmery skirt. It was a little wrinkled.

My first mode of action was to remove the zipper. But wait. It was a hidden zipper, and thus very complicated to remove and make it look nice. My mom came up with a great idea: add a pocket that can be accessed from the inside or the outside. We’ll get to that in a minute. After determining the length we wanted, we chopped off the excess. Then, we made a pocket from the lining and sewed it to the purse lining.

The bottom of the purse was taken care of with a French hem. We used the excess to make the strap. Last, we needed to make a closure. Here’s what my mom and I came up with:

And some more shots:

A friend of mine really liked this one and snagged it at the Open House. What do you think about it?
